Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

aPriori

Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented professional to own and elevate our FP&A function. In this critical individual contributor role, success hinges on your capacity to dive deep into the details, building and executing financial models, while also possessing the SaaS business acumen and communication skills needed to effectively articulate results to executive leadership and external stakeholders. You will be instrumental in shaping our strategic direction through rigorous financial planning and analysis, directly impacting key business decisions.

As our Director of FP&A, you will be the central figure in our financial planning processes. You'll gain a deep understanding of aPriori's operations and leverage that knowledge to provide data-driven insights and recommendations that fuel our expansion in the exciting world of manufacturing technology. While you will receive support from our accounting team for foundational data, the ownership and execution of the FP&A function rests squarely with you.

Location: Concord, MA (Hybrid, three days per week in the office – with some additional days in person as needed during busy periods.)

Responsibilities

  • Drive Financial Strategy: Lead near-term and long-term planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow), including sophisticated revenue modeling, to ensure accurate and reliable financial projections.
  • Fuel Growth with SaaS Insight: Possess a strong SaaS-native mindset, understanding key metrics like ARR, ACV, retention, churn, and unit economics, to fuel business growth with insights on key business drivers.
  • Build for Scale: Lead the selection, design, and implementation of a new financial planning platform, upgrading our capabilities beyond our current Vena system. Identify and champion initiatives to automate financial planning and data systems, increasing efficiency and data accuracy.
  • Elevate Financial Modeling: Continuously own and enhance our financial models, ensuring they are accurate, scalable, and provide insightful analysis.
  • Deliver Actionable Insights: Develop impactful dashboards and reporting that measure key business metrics and provide the executive team with the clarity needed to assess financial performance and make informed decisions.
  • Communicate with Impact: Effectively tell the financial story of aPriori by creating compelling monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages, including visualizations, narratives and commentary, for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and investors.
  • Analyze and Interpret: Conduct continuous analysis of actual vs. budget results and variances, identifying key trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Partner Across the Business: Support functional department leaders with in-depth trend and variance analysis, helping them understand their financial performance and drive efficiency. Liaise directly with investors, providing timely reporting and fulfilling ad hoc requests with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Support Strategic Growth: Develop sophisticated financial models to support critical decision-making and strategic initiatives, evaluating potential investments and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Proactive and analytical finance professional with a proven track record of success in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Natural problem-solver who is comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving results independently.
  • Proficiency in enterprise financial platforms such as NetSuite and Salesforce.com. Experience with Vena is a plus, but readiness to lead a new implementation is key.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present complex financial insights clearly and persuasively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Education and Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive work experience in FP&A or similar roles at a B2B SaaS company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a similar discipline required.
  • Comfort and experience working in a growing technology company where multi-tasking, learning quickly, problem-solving, and rolling up your sleeves to get things done are not just expected, but embraced.
  • Solid foundational accounting background, including a strong understanding of balance sheet mechanics and proper revenue accounting processes under ASC-606.
  • Exposure to venture debt, cap table planning, or fundraising cycles is a plus.
