Instructional Coach - Dual Language
Position Summary:
Dual Language Instructional Coach will support teachers in implementing effective dual language instruction that promotes bilingualism, biliteracy, academic growth and achievement, along with sociocultural competence. Serving as an instructional leader, the coach partners with teachers and school leaders to ensure students receive rigorous and engaging dual language academic experience that will lead to strong academic outcomes. Dual Language coaches will work closely with the building principal as well as fellow instructional leaders in the school building to guide curriculum implementation, assessment practices, data-driven instruction, professional development while also providing coaching and feedback for ongoing strengthened teacher development.
Essential Duties:
Curriculum and Assessment
- Collaborate with general, ELL, and special education teachers, climate and attendance specialists, and other student support staff to leverage the ability of OKCPS to maximize students’ academic and social-emotional development when integrating the district’s dual language instructional resources.
- Assists in identification and implementation of high quality dual language instructional materials/resources alongside the CIPL and Language and Cultural Services Team. ? Assists in the development of dual language curricular documents/resources and instructional support materials for classroom teachers/district use.
- Assists in the monitoring and measure of impact of curriculum resources to guide program improvement and to monitor student growth and achievement progress. ? Shares dual language instructional strategies to support rigorous standards-based instruction aligned to Oklahoma Academic Standards and ACT standards (when appropriate).
- Collaborate with building leaders to support, monitor, adjust, and align the implementation of the school’s dual language action/improvement plans based on short and long-term goals for student outcomes.
- Communicates frequently with building staff, district staff, parents and other community stakeholders to update them on the OKCPS dual language program happenings, to identify resources and to help parents support their students’ academic growth through parent engagement.
Data Driven Instruction
- Works collaboratively with the building administration, CIPL, Language & Cultural Services and Planning, Research and Evaluation (PRE) team to support the collection, analysis, and interpretation of student achievement data.
- Conducts deep analysis of disaggregated data for each student subgroup, or special population and supports teachers in facilitating this analysis during PLCs. ? Supports the instructional leadership team in identifying the strengths and areas of growth needed for students, teachers and the school community.
Teacher Development and Feedback
- Provide support, training, mentoring, professional development and coaching to dual language teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals.
- Attends professional development as required. Attends all site and district level professional development and PLCs meetings as assigned by the principal. ? Conducts dual language meetings at least bi-monthly in support of the needs of teachers on campus.
- Draws on knowledge of dual language curriculum and child development to model research-based instructional strategies, and observes classroom teachers to better support their implementation of the Oklahoma Academic Standards and district-provided dual language resources.
- In addition to observation and modeling, dual language coordinators should conduct planning and coaching conferences sessions as necessary to support teachers in improved instructional delivery.
- Prescribe and create job embedded dual language professional development for staff using a range of data to inform what professional development is needed. ? Provide job embedded professional development on “best practices” in dual language instructional strategies that increase student achievement, instruction, assessment, technology access and opportunities for students.
- Works with the instructional leadership team to monitor and support the implementation of the dual language program’s growth and improvement.
- Works with staff to ensure vertical and horizontal continuity and delivery of the dual language instructional program across the campus.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
- Bachelors’ Degree
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.
- Current Oklahoma Teaching certificate:
- ELEMENTARY REQUIREMENTS: Elementary Mathematics, Reading Specialist, Early Childhood, or Elementary Certification.
- SECONDARY REQUIREMENTS: Secondary English/Language Arts, Reading Specialist, US History/Government/Economics, Secondary Math, or Advanced Mathematics certification. · Experience in planning and monitoring campus-wide instructional programs.
- ESL Certification
- Ability to communicate in Spanish effectively with bilingual staff, parents and students. ? Knowledge of the 50/50 Dual Language Enrichment Model.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and experience leading teachers in the area of instructional delivery across the curriculum.
- Outstanding communication facilitation skills.
- Interpersonal skills suited to provide advice and mentoring to teachers and administrators. Knowledge of effective instructional practices for English Language Learners, students with disabilities and gifted and talented students.
- Experience in providing support to campuses in the areas of classroom-technology integration, parental involvement, school wide needs assessments, and analyzing data using large-scale, benchmark, and embedded assessments.
- All other duties as assigned by campus Administrator.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
- Masters’ Degree preferred
- Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must be biliterate (both read and write in a second language-Spanish). ? Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
Work Environment:
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment.
