Job Summary

Adjunct faculty members facilitate students’ achievement of course objectives and prepare college students to matriculate through the program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Face-to-face, interactive video, or online course delivery and instruction
  2. Prepare and submit syllabi, grades and other required course documentation in a timely manner
  3. Communicate course requirements and expectations to students
  4. Coordinate course schedule with other faculty teaching the same course
  5. Assist students with course material as necessary, potentially outside of class time
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in STEM Education or closely related field from an accredited university.

18 hours of graduate level coursework in STEM Education.

Uphold the mission and values of USM, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Center for STEM Education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Proficiency in the use of technology for teaching and learning;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
  • Adept at developing and delivering engaging and effective classroom lectures and online learning modules;
  • Proficiency in student assessment and evaluation methods;
  • Ability to effectively provide constructive feedback to students and guide them in their professional development;
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the learning needs of students, including those with varying learning styles;
  • Ability to maintain a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters student engagement and success;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve shared goals and objectives;
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching, mentoring and service experience at a university level. Experience with Canvas technology.
