The Principal Cloud Platform Engineer is a strategic technical leader responsible for building, evolving, and securing cloud platforms. This role drives standardization, automation, and governance to enable secure, and compliant development across the organization. Working across infrastructure, security, and product engineering teams, this role champions operational excellence, cloud security, and developer empowerment through scalable platform design.

Your Responsibilities on the Team

  • Architect and evolve secure, self-service cloud platforms supporting cloud workloads.
  • Build and maintain platform-level services and reusable patterns using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK).
  • Define and implement cloud governance frameworks including tagging standards, guardrails, policy enforcement.
  • Drive cloud security best practices, including least-privilege IAM design, secure networking, key management (KMS), and encryption standards.
  • Lead modernization efforts such as containerization, serverless adoption, and platform abstraction layers.
  • Collaborate with InfoSec and Compliance teams to ensure cloud platform meets internal and external audit requirements.
  • Establish platform SLAs, SLOs, and observability standards for performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Enable incident response and recovery strategies by implementing secure logging, alerting, and access controls.
  • Mentor Senior and Principal Engineers, and act as an advocate for secure and governed cloud adoption.

Requirements

  • Proven cloud engineering experience, with deep specialization in cloud architecture and security.
  • Advanced experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP) and core services (IAM, VPC, EKS, ECS, Lambda, RDS).
  • Strong automation background with Terraform, Python, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proven expertise in cloud governance, policy enforcement, and resource lifecycle management.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security principles, secure-by-design architecture, and regulatory compliance (SOC2, PII, PCI, CIS).
  • Familiarity with platform observability tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog.
