Spherion Mid Ohio, in partnership with The JM Smucker Company, is seeking an Analytical Lab Technician to assist the Smucker R&D Quality Assurance team in Orrville, Ohio. This is a 6-month contract position that offers a fantastic opportunity to gain experience within a Fortune 500 organization!

The Lab Technician will perform analytical testing of food samples in accordance with customer methods, company procedures, and cGLPs. Documentation of all testing activities is required. The position will also support activities associated with daily maintenance of the laboratory.

The schedule for this role is Monday-Thursday (occasional Fridays) with 8-hour work days in the lab between 7am and 6pm, utilizing flex hours while meeting business needs. This position will typically offer 32 hours/week.

Responsibilities:

• Perform sample preparation and analytical testing on food products such as coffee, spreads, baked snacks, and pet foods.
• Operation of analytical equipment (including Karl Fisher % moisture, pH, Aw, viscosity and color analysis) for all 'wet' food categories
• Operation of analytical equipment (including % fat, % moisture, protein, % salt, and amylase analysis) for all 'dry' food categories
• Perform various laboratory projects
• Analytical reporting
• General laboratory glassware upkeep and ordering supplies
• Maintain ISO/IEC 17025-accredited methods
• Maintain a culture of laboratory safety
• Documentation and data entry

Requirements:

• Previous general laboratory experience in education or workplace setting is required
• Strong chemistry and mathematics background
• Working knowledge of computers, data entry, and ability to learn and operate multiple computer systems
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on occasion
• Knowledge of basic lab safety and sanitation protocols

Pay:

$21/hour (approximately $43,560 annually)

Education:

Bachelor's degree - in progress or completed - is recommended, preferably in scientific field such as Chemistry, Food Science, Biology, or related.

Schedule and Location:

The schedule for this role is Monday-Thursday (occasional Fridays) with 8-hour work days in the lab between 7am and 6pm, utilizing flex hours while meeting business needs. This position will typically offer 32 hours/week. This position will work 100% on-site at the Smucker Company location in Orrville, Ohio.
