The NPD Practitioner continuously uses environmental scanning to intentionally assess opportunities and challenges within and externally to the organization, and identifies opportunities based on global and national healthcare trends, legislative changes, needs of collaborative partners, educational gaps, emerging technologies, and the clinical staff member’s desire for growth. The principal duties and job responsibilities are based on the Standards of the Association of Nursing Professional Development. The NPD Practitioner supports learners in interprofessional practice and learning environments to facilitate continuous development and learning for the healthcare team. + Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates orientation for individuals new to the nursing unit/department using the NPD standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation with the NPD Practice model using inputs, throughputs, and outcomes to ensure a systematic approach to onboarding orientation. + Adjusts implementation strategies as needed based on the learner’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language, and cultural preferences. + Engages learners in planned educational activities through effective facilitation skills. + Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates activities related to training of new graduates, experienced nurses, and ancillary staff new to the unit/department based on collection of data that is used systematically and purposefully to ensure relevant and evidence-based learning for each clinician. + Activities include coaching of new nurses, facilitation of learning, using simulation, and tools that capture objective and subjective data about the individual’s knowledge base and actual performance.
