Job Title: Pipefitter

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter for a medium to large project at a grain processing facility in Decatur, IL. The project involves installing 24" stainless steel pipes for a new building, with an expected completion date at the end of 2025 with continuous employment offered after the project is completed.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and install pipes, tubes, fittings, and non-metallic attachments.
  • Layout and interpret blueprints to complete layouts.
  • Cut pipes using handheld and power tools such as a hammer, chisel, cutting torch, pipe cutter, and pipe cutting machine.
  • Thread and bend pipes using pipe bending tools and threading machines.
  • Join pipes using threads, soldering, brazing, or cemented connections.
  • Inspect piping systems and machinery to detect malfunctions.
  • Create protective pipe layers using paints and other mechanisms.
  • Operate large oversized forklifts to lift pipes, support equipment, and heavy materials.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to verify blueprints off field measurements.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a pipefitter.
  • Ability to layout pipe runs from prints.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with welding, particularly TIG welding.
  • Mechanical fabrication skills.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and schematic interpretation.

Work Environment

The work environment is an ethanol plant within a large industrial park that can be dirty due to grain production and may have occasional odors. The team consists of one foreman and four fitters. The culture is blue-collar, with employees traveling across the U.S. and working extensive hours. The management philosophy focuses on building a cohesive team that enjoys working together and completing projects ahead of schedule. The dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans, hard hats, safety glasses, and work gloves. The standard work hours are Monday to Friday, from 6 AM to 4 PM, with a minimum of 50 hours per week, subject to change.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, Illinois.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
