Job Description

General Summary:

This position works closely with the Respiratory Care Director and takes responsibility for managing the business operations of the department. This position manages financial management activities to enhance the operational and hospital and contract program performance and outcomes. Provides information and analytical services in support of strategic initiatives and management decisions for the Respiratory Care Department. The Business Operations Manager will support the Department by generating financial and statistical reports used for decision support, assisting in budgets, metrics and growth initiatives. In addition, this position will take a leadership role in the implementation, ongoing financial analysis, and monitoring compliance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • In partnership with the leadership team, develops and manages project and operational budgets and related financial reporting.
  • Assist with the budget variance reporting.
  • Prepares monthly financial reports for operational expenses of hospital and contract respiratory performance. Analyzes actual results and provides meaningful insight into variances from budget to prior year and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures to enhance business-related operations.
  • Assists Respiratory Care Leadership Team in efforts to maximize revenue or cost reduction, including monitoring for effective charge capture and/or opportunities for product conversions.
  • Leads improvement activities for the department such as the identification of new revenue opportunities or cost savings opportunities.
  • Analyzes, develops, and disseminates reports to financial activity and productivity, as applicable.
  • Participates in projects, initiatives, and committees within the division, department and hospital as requested.
  • Collaborates with Hospital Billing and Revenue Integrity to provide education and training on billing and coding.
  • Prepares documentation for site visits and audits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Financial Principles: In-depth knowledge of budgeting, financial analysis, and cost management.
  • Revenue Cycle Management: Understanding of hospital and professional fee patient billing and coding processes.
  • Business Development: Familiarity with market research, financial, demographic, and clinical utilization analysis.
  • Human Resources Management: Knowledge of effective HR practices, performance management, and employee development.
  • Regulatory Standards: Awareness of compliance standards and regulations related to healthcare finance and billing.
  • Quality Improvement: Understanding of quality improvement methodologies and program development.
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a related field or 3-5 years of respiratory experience. Equivalent education and/or experience can be considered.

  • Financial Analysis: Ability to develop, analyze, and maintain operating and capital budgets.
  • Database Management: Proficiency in developing and maintaining databases on cost and profitability indicators.

  • Analytical Ability: Proficiency in Excel, interpreting financial data, and solid quantitative and qualitative skills.
  • Initiative: Ability to identify problems, conceptualize resolutions, and implement change.
  • Translation of Analyses: Capacity to translate analyses into actionable information for decision-making.
  • Independent Work: Ability to work independently and self-directed in developing new knowledge and skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Experience in planning and managing projects, attention to detail, prioritizing tasks, and handling diverse requests on short notice.

  • Financial Oversight: Capability to oversee expenditures and financial models for contracted services.
  • Revenue Optimization: Ability to ensure financial controls and minimize revenue loss.
  • Research and Analysis: Aptitude for conducting market, financial, demographic, and clinical utilization research.
  • Human Resources Management: Ability to effectively manage human resources and provide ongoing feedback and evaluation.
  • Quality Improvement: Capacity to develop, evaluate, and maintain comprehensive quality improvement programs.
  • Communication Clarity: Ability to clearly communicate financial information to both experts and nonexperts.

Pay Range

$83,200.00-$137,280.00 Salary

At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions. In addition to base salary, Lurie Children’s offer a comprehensive rewards package that may include differentials for some hourly employees, leadership incentives for select roles, health and retirement benefits, and wellbeing programs.
