TITLE: Media Librarian

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Holds a bachelor's or higher degree in library science
  2. Holds a valid Kentucky certificate as a media librarian
  3. Has demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents and community

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.

PERFORMANCERESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operate and supervise the library to which assigned
  2. Establish and supervise procedures for evaluating, selecting, and requisitioning new library materials
  3. Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and make library materials available to supplement the instructional program
  4. Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires
  5. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instruct teachers and students on use of the system
  6. Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers
  7. Work with teachers in planning those assignments that are likely to lead to an extended use of library resources
  8. Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities
  9. Help students develop habits of independent reference work and skills in the use of reference materials in related to planned assignments
  10. Arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits designed to increase students’ interests
  11. Prepare, recommend to the Principal, and administer the library budget
  12. Supervise and evaluate library aides in the performance of their duties
  13. Dispose of obsolete and worn materials from the collection on an annual basis and maintain a complete inventory
  14. Supervise the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the library
  15. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and other self-selected professional growth activities
  16. Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
