The sonographer provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for
interpretation and/or intervention.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Works closely with Radiologist to perform diagnostic sonographic exams.
- Exercises professional judgment in performance ofservices and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
- Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
- Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
- Adheresto Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
- Assessesthe patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.
- Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desiredresults.
- Performs properpatientidentification, acquires patient’s clinicalhistory, and assuresthatthe informationis accurately documented.
- Positions patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulatestechnical factorsto achieve high quality imagesfor interpretation.
- Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is
demonstrated.
- Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participatesin all Quality Control tasks.
- Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
- Appliesappropriate standard precautions andpersonalprotective equipmentto prevent cross-contaminationof contagiousdiseases.
- Assistsin supervision of student sonographers and training of new sonographers.
- Utilizes all Corporate Radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
- Ensures safety of all customers.
- Maintainsreasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal,state
and localstandards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies andprocedures.
Other Related Functions
- Follows established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation.
- Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
- Maintains well stocked and organized work areas.
- May be required to work at any facility
- Provides patient transport.
Qualifications
Education/Training
Graduate of an accredited school of sonography and meets American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) eligibility
guidelines.
Licensure/Certification
- RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer(RDMS)registered through the American Registry ofDiagnosticMedical Sonographers
(ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certificate.
- Maintains ARDMS physics registry and one ARDMS registry
Experience
Knowledge of routine ultrasound procedures and routinely demonstrates competency in performing ultrasound examinations pertinent
to department
