What will you be doing!

  • Performing physical, biological and chemical hazard assessments in Environmental Remediation Monitoring (ERM).
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, programs, standards and/or regulations.
  • Performing IH-related field sampling and testing of physical, biological and chemical stressors, including but not limited to: asbestos, silica, lead, mercury, mould, noise, non-ionizing radiation, and extreme temperature.
  • Recommending, implementing and monitoring required engineering controls, work practice, personal protective equipment and respirators.
  • Performing Confined Space Initial Hazard Assessments/Confined Space Entry Surveys and ensuring surveys comply with the relevant analytical and interpretation documentation.
  • Arranging and/or performing compressor and breathing air quality surveys (direct reading instruments and analytical techniques), and ventilation surveys, including fume hood testing.
  • Providing line managers and employees with survey reports indicating the results, field observations and recommendations.
  • Providing the Certified Industrial Hygienist with IH monitoring data, work plans, and reports for interpretation or in order to access necessary controls and take further action.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology or equivalent formal education in a field relevant to the position (i.e., industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental science, biology or chemistry) or
    • Secondary School Graduation diploma or equivalent and has more than 3 years pertinent experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Experience
    • Preferably at least three years of work experience in industrial hygiene field operations or a combination of experiences and IH-related training/education.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Demonstrated “safety first” attitude and which ensures activities are conducted with CNL, public and employee safety foremost in mind.
    • Ability to function well in an integrated work control team environment.
    • Intermediate skills and experience writing technical and investigative reports.
    • Working level knowledge of occupational health & safety legislation relating to general operational systems, construction, waste operations, environment remediation and demolition environments.
    • A working knowledge of radiation protection principles would be an asset.
    • Ability to prioritize work assignments.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (active listening, oral expression/comprehension), and training/presentation skills.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 7.5 hours a day.
  • Must be able to manage stairs, ladders and other egress equipment to enter all site and building areas, including confined spaces.
  • Must be able to use personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
