Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 14,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

What We Need:

The Manager of Family Support Services is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Parent Education Program. The Manager of Family Support Services will report to the Director of English Learners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: All Functions are under the direction of the principal.

  1. Provides assigned schools with technical assistance relating to attendance and participation in summer school
  2. Identifies and provides information about community based resources related to parenting.
  3. Confers with the principal regarding families, parent needs, and student needs
  4. Operates various computer software applications programs.
  5. Monitor student attendance and report attendance interventions.
  6. Work to increase effective, meaningful and productive communication between parents and school staff.
  7. Assist in developing and identifying strategies for providing ongoing support to families of identified students in need of specialized services or additional assistance.
  8. Assists parents and school staff with efforts to improve student attendance.
  9. All actions must be in concert with the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the strategic plan of the Waukegan Public Schools.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. The Illinois educational system and relevant resources.
  2. Cultural background needs and challenges of families served by the District.
  3. District procedures, requirements and activities.
  4. Effective parenting skills.
  5. Health and social services related public and private agencies.
  6. Child Care, health and development principles.
  7. Excellent translation skills both written and oral in Spanish and English.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Will be required to work a flexible schedule.

Compensation: Per current hourly wages for paraprofessionals and is grant funded year-to-year.
