The Associate Research Scientist will play a key role in product management for ClimateIQ, an AI-driven climate hazard assessment tool. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, product development, and experience with data science and climate risk analysis in cities, especially urban flooding and extreme heat. The Associate Research Scientist will play a key role in assisting the team prepare for the launch of a US and global product, including support for user experience research (UXR), marketing and customer support service to ensure successful adoption and dissemination.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead product management for ClimateIQ, coordinating across modeling, machine learning, and frontend development teams to define priorities, align timelines, and ensure delivery of key milestones.
  • Plan and facilitate agile workflows, including sprint planning, standups, demos, and retrospectives to keep the team on track and aligned.
  • Conduct market and competitor research to inform ClimateIQ’s national and global product release strategy; synthesize insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Support user experience research through methods such as interviews, usability testing, and feedback synthesis to iteratively refine product features and requirements.
  • Advise on product roadmap development and release schedules in collaboration with the project team
  • Contribute to scientific reporting and stakeholder-facing materials, including technical documentation and engagement strategies.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $40/hr. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Data Science, Urban Informatics, GIS, Sustainability Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with product management and development of data-driven tools.
  • Experience with geospatial analysis tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine) and climate risk modeling.
  • Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and interactive mapping tools.
