Are you a skilled Sonographer looking for a flexible and rewarding opportunity? UPMC Wellsboro is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team on a casual basis.

Position: Casual Sonographer

Location: UPMC Wellsboro, PA

Schedule: Rotating shifts, minimum of eight hours per pay period, including weekend call and holidays (typically one holiday per year and one call weekend per month)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform imaging procedures independently, requiring technical expertise and judgment.
  • Assist physicians with invasive procedures, adhering strictly to universal protocol standards.
  • Ensure all exams are properly coded, tracked through the RIS system, networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are accurately entered.
  • Responsible for High-Level Disinfection of devices, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Communicate instructions clearly to patients, explaining procedures to alleviate fears and gain cooperation.
  • Identify patients using two patient identifiers and follow universal protocol for procedures.
  • Review patient history and physician orders, applying departmental protocols for optimal data acquisition. Document patient history in electronic records as required.
  • Perform a variety of technical ultrasound procedures, correlating patient history, lab data, and physical findings to assist in medical diagnosis under physician supervision.
  • Interact with patients and co-workers with care, dignity, and respect, working as a team to expedite patient care.
  • Utilize appropriate ultrasound instrumentation, demonstrating knowledge of equipment operations and scanning techniques to optimize image data/documentation.
  • Obtain and document cross-sectional anatomy images, demonstrating normal and abnormal tissue characteristics, and correlate ultrasonic measurements with data charts and programs.

  • Completion of a formal Sonography program.
  • Certification and licensure as a Sonographer.
  • Strong technical skills and attention to detail.

Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.

RDMS registered or registry eligible preferred.

Completion of the Physics portion of the registry is preferred. Must obtain RDMS within 12 months of hire date.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
