The Opportunity

The Business Analyst is committed to innovation and continuous improvement. They are responsible for bridging the gap between business needs, process, and technical requirements. The Analyst will take initiative to conduct research, gather and analyze data, and identify and recommend ways the business can operate more efficiently. The Business Analyst will understand functional and technical requirements to provide innovative solutions for business process redesign and/or feature development or modification that would best serve the business goals.

The Business Analyst will understand and assess strategic business needs and plans for business growth, while assessing technical options, limitations, costs, and risks. They will communicate opportunities and tradeoffs to the business and work with the business to design solutions to best meet their needs. The Analyst will map current and future state processes, understand and document requirements, learn new systems and tools, and understand how to configure those systems to develop a technical solution. The Analyst will create business requirement documents, requirements traceability matrices, standard operating procedures, and training materials to support successful implementation of a new business process or tool.

As a key member of the Projects & Continuous Improvement team, the Business Analyst will work closely with Project Managers to design and deliver business solutions on critical institutional projects, and with Organizational Change Management Specialists drive adoption and sustainment of process and technology changes.

Key Responsibilities/Major Duties

  • Research, gather and analyze data to document current state business processes. Take initiative to identify challenges and recommend opportunities for efficiency. Document future state business processes and requirements.
  • Working closely with the Project Manager, OCM Specialists, the business leads and subject matter experts, and within the scope of the assigned project, review and analyze all current business processes, including technical systems and integrations, to understand the business challenges.
  • Use various research and analysis tools such as interviews, facilitated workshops, process mapping, documentation review, and working with vendors and subject matter experts to understand tools and systems.
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement and efficiency.
  • Create required documentation including business requirements documentation, requirements traceability matrices, current and future state process mapping, test plans, etc.
  • Document functional requirements in sufficient detail that technical teams can successfully deliver the solution.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate workshops. Interview subject matter experts to gather and understand requirements and systems.
  • Working with technical teams, act as the liaison between business needs and technical requirements, ensuring business needs are understood and accurately implemented by the technical team.
  • Take initiative to learn how to use systems and tools, perform configuration, create and coordinate testing plans including test script development, for both business and technical process tests.
  • Understand and communicate opportunities and tradeoffs required related to scope, cost, technical limitations, and risks. Work with the project manager, business leader and technical teams to navigate and develop a solution that meets the highest priority need.
  • Regular communication between all levels of the business and technical teams to ensure successful solution delivery. Communication will be written and verbal.
  • Be proactive and take initiative to execute on tasks and documentation, sharing issues and risks as required, and escalate to project managers, business sponsors, OCM Specialists, and Projects & Continuous Improvement Office when needed.
  • Create documentation for training guides, quick reference guides, and other tools to support adoption of the new business process or tool.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business analytics, information systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum three years’ experience providing business analysis expertise to complex, multi-stakeholder projects. This may include IT-related projects (solution design and implementation), business process improvement projects, or strategic business planning projects.
  • Preferred
  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Skills Required

  • Taking initiative to learn about new departments, areas of work, and projects. Motivated to learn and drive improvement.
  • Experience taking varied approaches to determine the explicit and implicit needs and requirements of various stakeholders.
  • Systems thinking, the ability to understand the interrelatedness of work from business and technical standpoint of organizational, operational, and project standpoints.
  • Ability to quickly learn objectives, structures, operations, and policies of a business area.
  • Strong problem resolution, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage both technical and business partners to achieve target outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in a condensed manner to various stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience creating documentation such as business requirements, business processes, and executive summaries
  • Expertise in setting and managing customer expectations.
  • Strong business acumen, including industry and domain specific knowledge
  • Ability to navigate the formal and informal hierarchies of the institution and influence key stakeholders to achieve program success.

Salary range: $75,000.00 - $87,000.00

Paid Leave: 4 Weeks' Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
