The Department of Military Affairs is looking to hire a Military Environmental Specialist located out of North Riverside. This position under direction, performs progressively responsible activities of an administrative, technical, and scientific nature related to environmental quality involving general compliance management (generally clean air, asbestos, pest management, radon, spill response management and water quality) for the Department of Military Affairs and the Illinois Army National Guard. In a coordinated effort with all compliance, staff keeps all facilities in compliance with procedures included in the ILARNG Environmental Protection Policy, AR 200-1, Federal, State, and Local regulations for environmental compliance. 1. Requires active or retired (20 years) membership in the Illinois National Guard or retired (minimum 20 years) US Armed forces, if last duty assignment was with the Illinois National Guard.
2. Exposure to potentially hazardous chemical.
3. Requires training for and wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); including proper filters, respirators and skin/eye protection based on chemical use.
4. Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, bending, and other routine exercises required for sampling of chemical containers, oil-water separators, storage tanks, etc.
5. Will require training on prescribed burn techniques prior to certification and maintain training certification.
6. Will be required to obtain Public Applicators/Operators license prior to certification and maintain license.
7. Requires travelling to other state facilities using state owned vehicle.
8. Requires valid driver’s license.
