Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician will function as a mechanic in the installation, maintenance and repair of the facility, its utilities, equipment and machinery used in the production of Medical Device products. Incumbents will be involved in the design, engineering, upgrade, troubleshooting, new installation and preventive maintenance of production and support utility equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance, monitoring, and repairs on assigned equipment or systems to ensure safe, timely, effective and efficient operation. Maintain all associated documentation.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain complex mechanical and electrical equipment including pumps, motors, HVAC equipment, soft motor controllers, variable frequency drives, fire protection and BAS computer driven equipment.
- Perform general technical, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting and plumbing repairs including, but not limited to: repair/replace general lighting, pumps, motors and belts; repair/replace toilets, faucets, drinking fountains, soft water systems and general plumbing; general construction and repair of walls, painting, sheetrock, ceilings and floors.
- Design and develop processes, drive continuous improvement initiatives/problem solving and influence cross-functional teams. Work with Engineering team to perform technical tasks for both new and ongoing projects.
- Complete work according to current building codes and company standards to ensure a safe and functioning environment. Safely and efficiently plan and perform duties of an electrical nature pertaining to all plant services and physical plant installation.
- Assist with winter and summer grounds maintenance including snow removal (operation of company snowplow, salt spreading and snow removal equipment) and yard maintenance, as required.
- Perform other duties, which may include but are not limited to: On-call duties, proper maintenance of tools, work areas and mechanical room; maintain proper levels of parts and supplies; and assist other facilities personnel as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area and assigned locations.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of policies and procedures relative to the company, regulatory agencies and the facilities department to ensure work meets all regulatory requirements.
- Ensure clear and effective communication and follow through with staff at all levels.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
- Working knowledge of all trade-related equipment, tools, and test equipment to include hand tools, ladders, manlifts (includes rigging of plant equipment and operation of tow motors and lifts), and any other tools and equipment common to trades.
- Knowledge of the NEC, Ohm’s Law and AC/DC circuitry to include troubleshooting.
- Electrical piping/wiring skills are required for the installation of various electrical systems including electrical conduit and well as digital and relay logic circuits.
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Computerized Maintenance Management System, and Allen-Bradley PLC programs.
- Working knowledge of carpentry, commercial plumbing and electrical maintenance and repair techniques, building support systems and grounds maintenance.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to expand technical knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to safely and competently manipulate various hand and power tools.
- Relevant experience in the applicable trade areas. Requires lifting and transporting heavy objects.
- Self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work outside of a normal shift designation, to include being on-call and able to report after hours, weekends and holidays to respond to emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s Degree or additional training highly desirable.
- 3 – 5 years of experience in the maintenance of production equipment and facilities.
- Experience in/understanding of the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of facility systems (i.e.: Air Compressors, BAS Control System, Pest Control Program, Housekeeping, HVAC&R, Fire Protection Systems, Chilled Water Systems, Boilers, DI Water, Vacuum Pumps, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Experience with the safe use of Voltmeter, Ohmmeter, Electronic Test Equipment, Diagnostic Equipment, Mechanical hand/power tools and computers.
- Must be 18 years of age.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work is performed in various environments: clean rooms, mechanical rooms and office areas.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand, kneel, or crawl for long period of time depending on the task they are performing.
- Use of computer or touch screen to enter work order data.
- Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 75 pounds.
- Less than 5% travel required.
