The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (“KSBHA”) is looking to fill the Litigation Counsel position. This is a highly responsible legal, managerial, and administrative position at KSBHA. The Litigation Counsel serves as the lead prosecuting attorney in administrative hearings involving highly complex medical and legal issues. This work will involve reviewing agency investigations, handling discovery, and trying cases in administrative hearings.
Duties of the Litigation Counsel include supervising associate litigation attorneys and legal support staff in all phases of disciplinary proceedings and managing the agency’s litigation caseload. In addition, the Litigation Counsel manages the administrative activities of and is responsible for all functions of the Litigation Department for the agency. In performing these duties, Litigation Counsel works closely with General Counsel, Disciplinary Counsel, and the Executive Director of the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a thorough understanding of state and federal laws, particularly of the Healing Arts Act, and an understanding of judicial and administrative procedures. Knowledge of methods of legal and medical research. The ability to study and become familiar with medical conditions and treatments for specific cases. As well as the ability to organize facts and evidence in difficult and complex medical cases and to make initial determination as to whether case has merit.
