PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To assist the Director & Coordinator of Transportation with general fleet maintenance and the operation of bus route(s), Route Software, GPS Software, Monthly Bus Counts, TEA State Reports, bus drivers and field trip management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications:

TEA certification requirements

High School Graduate or GED required

Five years’ experience as bus driver preferred

Certified bus driver with CDL License class B w/endorsements P(passengers) and S(school bus)

TEEX Bus Driver Trainer certification (or able to attain with 12 months)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to learn all transportation related software including Tyler Technology products, Excel, Word and other related software within three months of work.

Ability to learn all bus routes

Ability to effectively and professionally supervise bus drivers and bus monitors

Ability to effectively and professionally supervise and train their Bus Driver Trainer

Ability to drive a school bus

Ability to conduct bus driver in-service

Ability to pass alcohol and drug test

Ability to pass required bus driver safety training

Exceptional driving record

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor bus driver qualifications regarding physical exams, training and driving records, and inform the Director of Transportation and Coordinator of Transportation of any needs.
  • Promote good public relations between the general public and the school district.
  • Monitor bus drivers and enforce the observance of safe and proper driving of school buses.
  • Provide route and program activity schedules to all drivers as guides.
  • Monitor route and field trip time on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Accompany school bus convoys on special trips as needed.
  • Monitor field trips to see that they are properly carried out.
  • Work with campus Administration to secure proper conduct of students who ride a bus.
  • Assist the bus drivers in correcting problems as deemed necessary.
  • Counsel bus drivers and monitors regarding route concerns.
  • Serve as a liaison between campus Administration, Bus Driver, Bus Monitor and community.
  • Assign substitute drivers and monitors as needed.
  • Conduct parent complaint conferences as needed.
  • Prepare route maps and keep maps updated using all Department approved software.
  • Issue warnings to bus drivers and Monitors when needed.
  • Assist Director of Transportation and Coordinator on Employee Handbook updates.
  • Conduct bus driver and Bus Monitor meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Conduct driver-training sessions with the assistance of each Bus Driver Trainer.
  • Supervise gathering of student counts and any information as for TEA Reports and Department Director/Coordinator using Google Forms, Excel, and related software.
  • Maintain updated bus driver records.
  • Drive bus routes as needed or when directed by Department Administration.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to one and/or to others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and evaluate work of their Driver Trainer, bus drivers, monitors, clerk/trainers, substitute drivers, dispatcher, and field trip assignments

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Department issued cell phone, two-way radios, telephone, copier, calculator, fax, computer, printer, approved routing software, GPS software, Maintenance software.
