Under general supervision supervise the Recreation Counselor, ensuring planning and supervision of the recreational program for the facility.
All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge in administering recreation, vocational, and educational programs; federal and state laws, guidelines, and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures pertaining to Juvenile programs and activities.
Skill in supervising the work of others; in counseling groups and individuals; in interviewing and training employees; in planning, assigning and directing the work of others; in appraising performance; in rewarding and disciplining employees; in addressing complaints and resolving problems; and in developing programs and activities; record keeping; supervising staff, volunteers, and residents.
Ability to plan, direct, motivate, train, and supervise employees, and volunteers in providing resident programs including recreational, vocational, and educational programs; establish and effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, community groups, and residents from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds; communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing; work effectively under pressure and deadlines with consistent interruptions; interpret and apply Federal, State, County, and City laws, codes, regulations, and guidelines affecting recreation programs and activities;
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Human Resources software, Internet software and Microsoft software.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises Recreation Counselors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Recreational Management, Physical Education, or a related field; and two years of full-time employment in recreation, correction, or a closely related work including one year of supervisory experience in recreation or leisure activity is required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of work experience for one year of education with a maximum substitution of four years.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License possessed for at least 6 months
Defensive driving through Tulsa County within 6 months of hired
Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age.
