Software Engineer II (Java/AWS/SQL/API)

Verisk Analytics

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to join our growing Verisk Claims UK – Property team, based in Hyderabad. You will play a key role in the development of innovative cloud-based SaaS applications for the UK insurance industry, with a focus on property claims systems.

This role involves the design, development, and support of applications hosted in AWS, incorporating a microservices and serverless architecture. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, contributing to both new feature development and ongoing enhancement of existing systems.

You will be part of an Agile Scrum team delivering solutions to a wide range of stakeholders including insurers, suppliers, law enforcement and support industries within the UK and globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop full-stack, component-based web applications using Java, Vue.js (or React/Angular), and relational databases.
  • Work across the entire application stack, developing both frontend user interfaces and backend services.
  • Build and maintain APIs (REST and SOAP) to integrate with third-party and internal systems.
  • Design and support applications using a microservices architecture hosted on AWS, with a focus on scalability and performance.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and Business Analysts to capture user requirements and translate them into user stories and technical tasks.
  • Perform hands-on coding, testing, deployment and maintenance of high-quality software.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
  • Take ownership of tasks, accurately track time, and contribute to team delivery goals.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, deployment procedures and user guides.
  • Provide third-line support for production systems when required.
  • Promote clean coding practices, continuous improvement, and adherence to development standards.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience in Java development (likely to be gained from 2+ years of professional experience).
  • Frontend development experience using Vue.js (or React/Angular as alternatives).
  • Solid knowledge of SQL and relational databases – ideally Microsoft SQL Server, with PostgreSQL also beneficial.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g. DynamoDB, MongoDB) is a plus.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and SOAP web services.
  • Understanding of AWS services and experience deploying or supporting cloud-hosted applications.
  • Source control using Git or equivalent version control tools.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced Agile team environment.
  • A genuine interest in technology and continuous professional development.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience with microservices and serverless architectures (e.g., AWS Lambda).
  • Exposure to test-driven development (TDD) and CI/CD pipelines (preferably using Azure DevOps).
  • Understanding of clean code principles, design patterns, and best practices in modern software engineering.
  • Knowledge of message bus technologies and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with automation testing tools and low-code/no-code platforms.
  • Experience with other programming languages (e.g., Python, Go).
  • Working knowledge of Scrum/Agile methodology.
  • Prior experience in the insurance industry, particularly in property claims, would be advantageous.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on impactful, customer-focused applications within a respected UK-based technology division from our growing Hyderabad Office.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge tools, cloud technologies, and modern engineering practices.
