The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is the government agency tasked to develop Singapore as the premier Global Hub Port and leading international maritime centre. The Maritime Human Capital (MHC) Department is part of the Innovation, Technology & Talent Development Division that focuses on catalysing the transformation of the maritime industry, through the development of a vibrant innovation ecosystem with strong technological capabilities, building new or growing enterprise capabilities that is supported by an agile and competent workforce equipped with a global mind-set. You will be part of MHC which focuses on the development of human capital for Singapore’s maritime industry.

[What the job is]

Your main role is to help drive MHC’s efforts in managing the industry manpower needs and ensuring that maritime companies can access high quality complementary global professionals while improving workforce diversity and building a strong Singaporean core. You will also be required to engage with industry stakeholders such as international shipping companies and industry associations, as well as collaborate with relevant government organisations / institutes of higher learning on relevant manpower programmes.

[What you will be working on]

This role requires close follow-up both internally within MPA and with external government agencies. Major responsibilities will include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Liaise with officers from other MPA Divisions in analysing and assessing the suitability of company cases for support
  • Work with external government agencies (such as MOM) in the administration of cases
  • Keep informed on the latest developments relating to our national manpower policies, and ensure internal databases are continually updated in a timely manner
  • Regular and timely updates to supervisor on case management, as well as recommendations to issues as and when they arise
  • Provide analysis of the maritime manpower landscape as and when required
  • Promote and encourage adoption of manpower programmes to enable the growth of new / existing maritime businesses in Singapore
