AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Systems Engineer (Assoc. Principal) to join our high-performance team supporting critical DoD initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to apply your systems engineering expertise in a secure, hands-on environment at either the NSF in Arlington, VA, or JBAB in Washington, DC.
A Week in the Life:
- Design, build, and maintain secure and scalable platforms that support mission-critical systems across classified networks.
- Develop and implement automation scripts to streamline platform provisioning, deployment, and monitoring tasks.
- Manage both Linux (RHEL) and Windows systems, including user/admin control, network configuration, storage, and patch management.
- Provide Tier III support for virtualization environments (e.g., VMware) and enterprise-class storage systems (e.g., EMC SANs).
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, software, and mission operations teams to ensure platforms remain secure, resilient, and aligned with DoD policies.
- Edit and verify technical content in support of reports, manuals, briefs, and other deliverables, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Engage with SMEs and authors to enhance documentation, validate technical accuracy, and meet customer requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree + 10 years of platform engineering experience (additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
- Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent)
Technical Proficiency:
- Expertise in secure enterprise architectures across cloud/on-premise environments (IL5–IL6+)
- 2+ years hands-on experience with Linux (RHEL): users, permissions, networking, storage, shell scripting
- Working knowledge of Windows systems, VMware, and EMC SANs
- Experience in automation and platform monitoring tools

- Candidate may choose to sit at either of the following locations: NSF - Arlington, VA, OR JBAB - Washington, DC
- Work is 100% on-site
Pay Transparency Statement
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $129,800.00/Yr. - USD $216,700.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
