Job Summary

Speech-language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency.

What you will do

  • Plans and provides evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students and adjusts intervention strategies based upon student performance and best practices in the field of speech pathology.
  • Develops and implements appropriate IEPs based on students’ strengths & needs.
  • Administers formal and informal assessments. Observes students in educational environments and selects appropriate assessments based on individual student needs. Administers tests according to acceptable procedures and demonstrates knowledge and use of TN DOE eligibility criteria.
  • Completes all required procedural documentation for students (to include but not limited to assessment reports, therapy data collection, IEPs, re-evaluation documents, progress reporting, and Medicaid documentation).
  • Collaborates/consults with all stakeholders (to include by not limited to general education teachers, exceptional education teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, vision teachers, school counselors, etc.) in the management of speech-language disorders as they relate to literacy, communication skills, and their impact on learning. Provides coaching and trainings to stakeholders when appropriate.
  • Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need and intensity level for speech-language services.
  • Serves on student support teams when appropriate and make recommendations for speech and language interventions. If needed, conducts speech, language and hearing screenings.
  • Develops and maintains scheduling for the following: speech and language therapy and instructional services, IEP and eligibility meetings, assessments, collaboration and planning with stakeholders.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree In the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology Required

  • Communication & listening skills, analytical skills, effective interpersonal skills, flexibility and organization

Licenses and Certifications

  • Tennessee Department of Education Teacher’s License (Practitioner/Professional School Services Provider) Required

Equivalency

Starting At: $52,048.58

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
