South Dakota State University (SDSU) Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is offering an exciting opportunity to join the growing academic and research program as a tenure-track faculty with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Pharmacology. This is a 9-month, 100%-time, benefit eligible position that is supervised by the Department Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions is nationally recognized for excellence in preparing students to provide high quality patient-centered care. SALARY:
The salary and rank are commensurate with experience, minimum $90,000 for Assistant Professor. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per university’s guidelines.

Department Description and Cultural Expectations
COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AND ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS:
The College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions is organized into three departments: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy Practice, and Population and Allied Health. With approximately 50 faculty members, the College supports around 700 students across several programs, including the Doctor of Pharmacy, M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), and A.S. and B.S. in Respiratory Care. Additionally, the College provides administrative oversight for the University’s Master of Public Health program. Known for its high standards in pharmacy education, both regionally and nationally, the College’s Pharm.D. program boasts a consistent pass rate of 90-100% on the national pharmacy licensure exam (NAPLEX). The Ph.D. program started in 2007, graduated 47 students so far with 12 students enrolled. The on-campus M.S. program, launched in 2022, graduated its first cohort in 2024. Plans are underway to introduce an online M.S. program in pharmaceutical sciences in Fall 2025. Graduates from the Ph.D. and M.S. programs are well-placed in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and regulatory agencies in the U.S. and abroad.
With a strong alumni base, the College has been fortunate to receive multiple endowments from generous donors. The Department has been a leader in the state in intellectual property development, commercialization of technologies, and creation of university spin-offs. The Department has collaborations with clinician-scientists and biomedical researchers at Sanford Research and Avera Research Institute both in Sioux Falls, SD. The Department also works closely with start-up companies in the region.
The Department is housed in the cutting-edge Avera Health and Science Center, featuring 97,000 square feet dedicated to teaching labs, classrooms, and offices, along with 48,600 square feet of research lab space. The University also offers a core genomic, NMR and Mass spectrometric facilities along with a centralized animal facility for research involving small and large animals. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has a team of 10 faculty members, including two endowed positions in cancer research. Research focuses include cancer, bioengineering, drug and vaccine delivery, nanotechnology, as well as neurological and infectious diseases. In recent years, the College has made substantial investments in new research labs and state-of-the-art equipment.
