DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The UW Medical Center-Montlake Environmental Service team's scope includes cleaning and disinfecting, waste management, linen services, integrated pest management, and room set up.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

Provide day to day leadership and support to the Environmental Services department managers and supervisors

Multi-dimensional position that helps support the activity for Environmental Services, Waste Management and Linen Services daily

Directs the work of the most critical areas of UW Medical Center (Patient Care, Surgical Services and ED)

Fills a critical role in meeting the hospital’s infection control standards

Ensure a safe, secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors in a way that promotes the healing and teaching mission of UW Medical Center - Montlake and the Roosevelt Clinic

Be a part of a team dedicated to supporting UW Medicine where Patients Are First

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop programs and create policies and procedures that support best practices and comply with all regulatory requirements including Department of Health (DOH), The Joint Commission (TJC), and Department of Ecology requirements

Research national best practices using available resources such as the Studer Group, Professional Housekeepers Association, Practice Green Health, and contract companies; perform outreach as necessary to other regional and national hospitals to learn new areas of focus and best practices

Oversee and develop specialized procedures and policies that address terminal cleaning, floor care, the use of chemicals, equipment and training of the Xenex ultra violet light technology

Procedures and policies must address normal day-to-day activity and operations, emergency and disaster response scenarios, and when the hospital exceeds capacity

Provide professional leadership and direction for a 24/7 operation of EVS staff; effectively lead and manage change in a demanding, unionized, and high-risk/high-acuity patient care environment

Direct staff activities to ensure all regulatory and organizational requirements are in compliance, including performance evaluations, disciplinary procedures, and terminations

Ensure the department maintains appropriate documentation, perform regular inspections, cleaning audits and waste/biohazard manifest records as required by regulatory organizations

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent experience related field

Minimum of 4 years in senior management experience in the housekeeping field

Healthcare housekeeping management experience highly preferred

Supervisory experience to include performance management and team development experience

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements
