Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the "Pearl of the Prairie" is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Lenox holds an amazing four day Rodeo every July and is home to a beautiful 36-9 hole golf course, several fishing and boating lakes, great area hunting, a beautiful city park with swimming pool, and many picnic parks. The MFI location in Lenox produces primarily pre-cooked egg patties. Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

Join our team as a Float Operator and unleash your potential in a fast-paced, high-energy environment where your skills and dedication drive us towards our daily goals. The purpose of the Float Person is to perform quality checks on a specified line, ensuring that all product that is packed meets customer specification before it is packed into cases and shipped to the customer and to help provide coverage on that line. This person helps to ensure that all personnel on their lines are following company GMP’s and only packing acceptable product. This person is proficient in all positions and tasks in the department. This Operator will break others on the line so being able to work in various roles is important. They may be responsible for loading materials into the machine, ensuring proper settings are inputted, monitoring the machine's operation, and performing routine maintenance tasks. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The utility person must do weight/quality checks, metal detector checks and corresponding computer and/or paperwork and enter data in the RedZone Compliance Module. 
  • Fill in for team members for lunches and breaks.
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment as needed. 
  • Set-up of equipment and material for a production run. 
  • Conduct and record all quality checks and record downtime events in a timely fashion utilizing Redzone. 
  • Must have the ability to determine if product meets proper specifications or not and inform supervisor or take corrective action as needed. 
  • Must have the ability to coach line workers on acceptable versus unacceptable product, helping to ensure that all product that is packable is put into finished cases, helping to reduce shrink. 
  • Must have the ability to perform daily and weekly Autonomous Maintenance line walks, recording motor temperatures and vibrations, basic troubleshooting is required. All findings are recorded in the iPad. 
  • Manage inventory consumptions or creation in inventory management system. 
  • Alerts the Supervisor when major mechanical problems occur and reports any system abnormalities to reduce the risk of, and damage to, the system or product.

  • Attends and actively participates in safety meetings and trainings. 
  • Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products. 
  • Adhere to safe work practices, policies, and procedures. Follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Performed other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Skill in working with computers and iPads and experience with spreadsheet and word-processing software.
  • Must have good verbal and communication skills and the ability to work well with others. Must be a self-motivated individual who can work with a minimal amount of supervision
  • Must have the ability to safely lift up to 30lbs. 
  • Must have the ability to work indoors in a damp changing environment for duration of the shift 
  • Ability to travel stairs. 
  • Ability to learn and understand cross contamination issues and how to avoid them. 
  • Must wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job 
  • Must know customer specifications. 
  • Must have the ability to retain knowledge for future use. 
  • Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.
