The department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance is home to passionate practitioners of theatre and dance, examining the place of these arts in society, bringing both classic and original creations to stage. This artistry is the result of formal instruction, individual mentoring, and the magic that occurs when people of vision and expertise work together. The Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance explores all facets of professional performance including technical production and scenic design. The department is comprised of playwrights, actors, dancers, and technicians, taught by leading professionals in contemporary dance and the theatrical arts.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Designs, directs, supervises, and implements a comprehensive community, stewardship, and engagement program that appropriately and consistently promotes interaction with the community, cross disciplinary activities, and recognition of donors, volunteers, recruitment and outreach prospects. This includes Associate Producer and Artist Sponsor programs.
  • Cultivates current and prospective volunteers, guest artists, and potential donors, oversees ceremonies, department events, and alumni communication and recruitment efforts.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes projects, programs and events as a leader advisor for the department.
  • Collaborates with other university offices to engage and cultivate alumni and continued recruitment through various strategic initiatives. 
  • Works closely with our guest artists to ensure connectivity of residency with students, alumni, and donor base.
  • Represents department and auxiliary at related campus-wide initiatives and committees.
  • Develops individualized engagement strategies, and works with department leadership to enhance the department's relationship with, donors, alumni, parents, potential students, and community members.
  • Develops and manages a department archive and portfolio of alumni, organizations, donors, and guest artists. 
  • Conceives, plans, and executes a variety of special events, both large and small, on behalf of the department for networking, professional recruitment, and production efforts of the department.
  • Works closely with Public Relations and Audience Development Specialist in developing impactful content for recruitment/alumni/donor/guest artist-related content, activities, and communication, including print, online, social media and web content. 
  • Works with fiscal officer to ensure licensing of productions produced by the department.

General Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and implements programs or events, including the creation of materials to support these events.
  • Provides staff communications and serves as liaison to program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public; approves staff purchase requests; arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
  • Researches available grants and works closely with managers to identify funding needs and potential sources, creates grant proposals that further advance support of the program and program participants; May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Constructs and administers program budgets and approves spending. 
  • Tracks progress on deliverables, analyzes data on projected spending and prepares reports for higher management and funding sources.
  • Keep abreast of best practices to recommend policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred

  • Master's degree in a related field 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years in related field

Preferred

  • 5 years in public relations, development, event planning, project management, public affairs, marketing, volunteer management or a related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This role will require some weekends and evenings in performance attending and supervising events related to the position.
