Position Details

Housed within the Academic Success Center, the Office of Student Accessibility and Academic Support at The University of Tampa has an opening for an Academic Program Specialist for Student Accessibility Services. This position will be responsible for duties related to Student Accessibility Services and will report to the Director of the Office of Student Accessibility and Academic Support. 

Responsibilities

1. Work with a range of students with documented disabilities to create accommodation plans regarding academic, housing, dietary, and other relevant accommodation areas.

2. Responsible for reviewing documentation, conducting welcome meetings, and general case management for a large caseload of students, including both new and continuing undergraduate and graduate student populations.

3. Assist with providing one-on-one academic support to students with disabilities within assigned student caseload.

4. Provide formal and informal training to a variety of University stakeholders regarding the accommodations process and how we ensure institutional compliance and equitable access relative to ADA and Section 504 Rehabilitation Act.

5. Assist the department and Testing Center with accommodated examinations, such as serving as a reader/scribe, and assisting with mid-term and final exam proctoring. Work as part of a team to maintain updated Student Accessibility Services standard operating procedures.

6 Create, develop, and implement student workshops and educational programming associated with Student Accessibility Services and the Office of Student Accessibility and Academic Support.

7. Track and report on data from student caseload and affiliated services.

8. Provide additional support to the Director as necessary; serve as a contributing member to OSAAS and ASC staff, assisting with outreach and overall Center operations, as needed.

9. Assist the Director with educational initiatives across campus related to Student Accessibility Services and the ADA.

10. Help oversee daily operations of Student Accessibility Services when Director is absent.

11. Teach one section each fall and spring semester of ASK 100. May also teach the First-Year Seminar course BAC UTAMPA 101/102, with supervisor permission.

13. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of all cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications

1. Master’s Degree in education, higher education, or related discipline is required.

2. In-depth knowledge of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Fair Housing Act and FERPA.

3. At least two years of full-time professional experience working with individuals with disabilities – experience with students with disabilities in higher education preferred.

4. Prior teaching experience preferred.

5. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organizational skills as well as the ability to establish priorities and manage time wisely.

6. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with various areas within the Academic Success Center and other areas on campus.

7. Ability to work nights or weekends on an occasional basis. 

8. Knowledge of MS Office and computer database skills. Knowledge of Accommodate by Symplicity, Work Day, and EAB Navigate preferred.

9. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
