Overview:

This position is for a pharmacy technician with the specialty pharmacy team. Pharmacy technicians work in a call center and pharmacy environment completing patient/caregiver outreach for refill and delivery coordination in addition to technician-specific duties to support specialty pharmacy operations. They also work in the pharmacy preparing packages to be delivered to patients. It's Monday-Friday with varying hours from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm based on the shift. There are no holiday/weekend requirements. Additionally, it is a hybrid position after 90-day training period with technicians rotating on site routinely to work in the packaging shift.

Job Description Summary:

Provides technical expertise in the outpatient pharmacy.Supports the pharmacy by providing assistance to the outpatient staff pharmacists with the processing of prescription orders along with preparation and dispensing of patient medications within the three outpatient pharmacies. Assists in training of new staff.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Accepts prescription, establishes billing/patient charges, documents patient’s allergies correctly, interprets and enters information regarding the outpatient prescription into the computer system.
  • Prepares and packages injectables and oral medication for outpatient use.
  • Independently resolves on-line adjudication problems with Third Party Payors, without pharmacist intervention.
  • Extemporaneously compounds medication which is not commercially available (i.e. suspensions, ointments, liquids, capsules, powders, etc.) under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Replenishes pharmacy stock area and notifies pharmacist or inventory coordinators of any problems or concerns.
  • Assists in orientation and training for new Outpatient Pharmacy Technicians and interns. Ensures that the trainees are competent to function in the outpatient pharmacy area.

Education Requirement:

  • As required by listed licensure and/or certification requirement.
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

Board of Pharmacy Technician License (Registered or Certified), required.

Certifications:

Completion of a pharmacy technician program, required.

Certification as a pharmacy technician or documented passing score on certification exam prior to start date (CPhT, ExCPT), required.

Skills:

Demonstrated skills in algebra by passing score on math competency administered on site.

Experience:

Two years of experience as a pharmacy technician (preferably in a setting appropriate for the position, e.g. outpatient, hospital, etc), required.
