Duties and Responsibilities
We are actively recruiting Chief Residents for the 2026-2027 academic year for the Loyola Medicine-MacNeal Hospital Internal Medicine and Transitional Year Residency Program in Berwyn, Illinois. Each year, we select two Chief Residents to join our leadership team and work with 42 Internal Medicine (IM) and 14 Transitional Year (TY) residents.
This one-year position offers outstanding opportunities for recent residency graduates to further develop their teaching and leadership skills while gaining clinical experience as an attending physician. Many of our former Chief Residents have gone on to pursue careers in academic medicine, competitive fellowships, and hospital medicine.
About MacNeal Hospital & the Chief Resident Role
MacNeal Hospital is a 374-bed institution with three residency programs: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Transitional Year. The Chief Resident position includes a balance of educational, administrative, and clinical responsibilities, including:

By the end of the academic year, Chief Residents develop a strong foundation in medical education, hospital leadership, and administrative skills, preparing them for diverse career paths in hospital medicine, academic medicine, or private practice.

MacNeal Hospital is in Berwyn, just 20 minutes west of downtown Chicago. Moonlighting opportunities are available both within MacNeal and externally, depending on work authorization eligibility.
