Your Impact in This Role

As a Quality Manager, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage/Leads Quality Control Program at plant, ensuring compliance with customer requirements.
  • Understands all customer requirements and specifications.
  • Perform quality checks to comply with SMI’s Quality Improvement Process.
  • Tracks quality performance looking for trends to identify problem areas, leads action to improve.
  • Provide continuous feedback of plants’ quality performance to personnel.
  • Provides weekly reports to plant and corporate quality teams with a highlighted focus on improvement opportunities.
  • Responsible for stopping plant production when production quality is not meeting customer specifications.
  • Responsible for quarantining and dispositioning out of spec material to ensure it is handled properly and is not shipped to the customer.
  • Creates COA’s (Certificates of Analysis) as required by certain customers.
  • Conducts / Assists with plant quality meetings and training of plant employees.
  • Updates and maintains quality records on a computer. Analyze data and produce reports.
  • Audits Quality Testing Technicians’ actions to ensure sampling and testing are done correctly.
  • Coaches and trains new and existing Quality Assurance employees.
  • Perform in-process cullet sampling procedures.
  • Conducts incoming and outgoing load inspections.
  • Work with the maintenance personnel to ensure equipment operates efficiently to optimize product quality
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant operations and focus resources to make and maintain improvements.
  • Back-up support, as needed, to the Plant Manager
  • Champions and supports Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Cross-trained in other plant positions, as needed
  • Wear appropriate site specific personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.
  • Understand and adhere to all company operating procedures and company safety policies.
  • Any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following. 

  • Glass processing knowledge, preferred.
  • Understand and follow specific oral instructions.
  • Quality Improvement Process knowledge
  • Requires strong math/statistics skills
  • Capable of using calculator and gram scales and competency with interpreting numbers
  • Core competencies in Quality Control, Testing, and Auditing
  • Able to read and understand Directives and Test Methods
  • Computer operation skills: Excel a MUST, Word, Power Point, Access, Sharepoint etc.
  • Capable of driving a forklift
  • Capable of training subordinates
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter, strong work ethic and ability to work independently, with little supervision
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
  • Six Sigma experience, a plus

  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) occasionally.
  • Technical degree, BS degree preferred but not necessary
  • 5 years of Quality Control and Operations experience, in a manufacturing environment
