Mission of the Role:

To work with BMS and Power Electronics teams to design and implement high-quality and safety critical embedded software for the High Voltage and Power Electronics controllers. To have In-depth knowledge of control theory and experience with control system design, analysis, and implementation are crucial. This includes familiarity with various control techniques such as PID control, state-space control, and digital control algorithms. The Software Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing solutions that meet Power Electronics controls objectives, customer needs, design documentation, writing clear and concise code as well as testing to meet the software quality expectations.

Key objectives of this Role:

Design and develop embedded software controls for Power Electronics such as On-Board Charging, DC/DC converters and contactor controls.

Develop deep understanding of automotive power electronics topologies to simulate and develop robust control strategies to achieve higher efficiencies

Understand/analyze the requirements, controls algorithms and design constraints to develop the software for Power Electronics and BMS features

Participate in new feature studies, define interfaces and high-level architecture, create feature roadmap.

Perform software debugging and quality assurance activities–integration testing, unit testing, etc.

Perform code review and give feedback.

Prepare appropriate technical documentation.

Support and present new customer pursuits, prepare technical content and help win new electrification projects.

Key Performance Indicators:

Problem-solving and Troubleshooting: Resolve technical challenges during the development process. Deep level understanding of Power Electronics topology to identify and resolve system-related issues promptly and efficiently.

Collaboration and Teamwork: Electrification projects usually involve cross-functional teams. This KPI assesses the software engineer’s ability to collaborate effectively with other team members, communicate ideas clearly, and contribute to the overall success of the project.

On Time Delivery: Track percentage of software milestones delivered on schedule against feature roll out plan and planned timeline.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Deep understanding of Power Electronics topology, power converts to develop the OBC and DCDC converters. Evaluate the ability of the software engineer to track the implementation of innovative ideas, adoption of new technologies, and improvements on development process.

Intellectual Property (IP) Creation: This KPI measures the engineer's contributions to intellectual property creation, such as patents, innovative software solutions, and defensive publications. It highlights their ability to develop novel concepts and protect valuable technology developed within the organization.

Qualification, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Electrical, Computer Science or equivalent

2+ years of experience in Power Electronics controls and software development

2+ years’ experience with Modeling and Simulation for the Power Electronics controls development using modeling and simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Plecs etc.

Deep level understanding of Power Electronics topology for OBC, DCDC converters, inverters and semiconductor devices such as MOSFETs, IGBTs etc.

Experience and familiarity with DSP techniques and implementing digital control algorithms

Experience developing embedded real-time safety critical software systems.

Experience in developing software to meet Functional Safety and Cybersecurity

Experience with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, LIN. Automotive Ethernet is a plus.

Desired Competencies:

Degree in engineering or technology

2+ years of experience within the automotive industry preferably in electrification

Work experience at an Automotive Tier 1, 2, or OEM
