SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY: 

The English as a New Language (ENL) Secondary Support Coach plays a vital role in guiding English learners and their families through the high school journey, graduation requirements, and post-secondary pathways, ensuring they understand the classes and credits needed to successfully complete high school while exploring college and career opportunities. The secondary success coach will also support students who seek alternative pathways to graduation. This position provides ongoing support through school-based meetings and home visits, fostering strong family engagement so that ENL families become integral partners in their child’s secondary education. A successful coach will support the middle-to-high school transition, ensuring students, families, and school staff fully understand high school expectations and graduation requirements while also assisting with freshman-on-track initiatives, offering early interventions and resources to set ninth-grade students up for a successful high school experience. Ultimately, this role is essential in empowering multilingual learners with the knowledge, resources, and support needed to thrive academically and prepare for future success.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

Core Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist English learners in understanding graduation requirements, credit accumulation, and course selection to ensure successful high school completion.
  • Support students in exploring alternative pathways to graduation, including credit recovery, dual enrollment, and workforce certifications.
  • Collaborate with ENL teachers to integrate college and career readiness lessons into instruction.
  • Conduct school-based meetings and home visits to keep families informed and involved in their child’s education.
  • Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community organizations to provide multilingual learners with resources and support.
  • Organize and facilitate family workshops on academic planning, high school success, and post-secondary pathways.
  • Ensure that students, families, and staff understand high school expectations, academic pathways, and support systems.
  • Work closely with middle schools to provide smooth transitions for rising ninth-graders.
  • Assist with high school orientation programs and transition workshops for EL students.
  • Monitor freshman progress and academic performance, identifying students in need of early interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop and implement support plans for struggling students.
  • Ensure that ninth-grade English learners receive the necessary academic and social-emotional support to build a strong foundation for high school success.
  • Advocate for equitable access to academic opportunities, including advanced coursework and specialized programs for English learners.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

“Day In the Life” Overview 

On a regular day, as an ENL Success Coach, you might: 

  • Meet with ninth grade students in an ENL class to discuss academic performance, attendance, and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Call families who have questions regarding the graduation requirements for their child and explain the pathways to graduation. 
  • Prepare for upcoming parent meetings for 8th grade English learners regarding high school choice and 21st Century Scholarships. 
  • Audit class schedules to ensure students are enrolled in the correct classes that keep them on track to graduate.
  • Meet with students at alternative sites to check in on progress, attendance, and set goals for completing online coursework. 

WHAT YOU’ll BRING: SKILLS AND MINDSETS:

As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following: 

  • Rapport with students, families, teachers, administrators, staff, and team members through strong relationship building.
  • Working knowledge of the Indiana Graduation Pathways and graduation requirements.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with a diverse staff and community. 
  • Effective analysis of student assessment data to drive instructional decisions. 
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
