Main Purpose of Job
Provide transportation for students in the Work to Learn program.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
The Work to Learn (WTL)\r\nDriver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for high\r\nschool students participating in the WTL program. This role involves\r\ntransporting students to and from their work sites, ensuring timely arrival and\r\ndeparture, and fostering a supportive environment that encourages students'\r\ngrowth and independence.\r\n\r\n\r\nKey Responsibilities:\r\n\r\n\r\n Safely transport students to and from designated work\r\n sites according to the established schedule.\r\n Ensure compliance with\r\n all traffic laws and safety regulations while driving.\r\n Maintain a clean and\r\n well-functioning vehicle, conducting regular inspections and reporting any\r\n issues to management.\r\n Assist students with\r\n entering and exiting the vehicle, providing necessary support as needed.\r\n Foster a positive and\r\n respectful atmosphere in the vehicle, promoting appropriate behavior and\r\n communication among students.\r\n Collaborate with WTL\r\n staff to coordinate transportation logistics and address any scheduling changes\r\n or student needs.\r\n Maintain accurate\r\n records of transportation routes, student attendance, and any incidents that\r\n occur during transport.\r\n Communicate effectively with students, staff, and\r\n parents regarding transportation schedules and any changes or concerns.\r\n\r\nWork Environment:\r\n\r\n\r\n Primarily operates in a vehicle while\r\n transporting students.\r\n May involve exposure to varying weather\r\n conditions.\r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nValid driver’s license and\r\nclean driving record.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience working with\r\nyouth, preferably in an educational or support setting.\r\n\r\n\r\nStrong interpersonal skills\r\nand the ability to engage with students in a positive manner.\r\n\r\n\r\nKnowledge of safe driving\r\npractices.\r\n\r\n\r\nFluency in American Sign Language.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nAbility to assist students\r\nwith mobility challenges as needed.\r\n\r\n\r\nAbility to sit for extended\r\nperiods while driving.\r\n\r\n\r\nAbility to work flexible\r\nhours to accommodate student work schedules.\r\n\r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this\r\nposition are assigned duties which require the operation of a motor\r\nvehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor\r\nvehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
\r\n\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n\r\n
