Job Description:
The Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Optic Engineer II is a critical role responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure to support reliable and high-performing networks. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and cross-functional coordination to ensure successful delivery of OSP projects.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and GIS-based fiber management systems. They will manage vendor relationships, lead cross-functional meetings, and oversee multiple projects to meet organizational goals. Strong attention to detail, adherence to safety regulations, and proficiency with industry-standard tools are essential for success in this role. Additionally, the candidate will ensure that all network documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with company and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
- Fiber Optic Splicing and Troubleshooting
- Perform high-quality fiber optic splicing, including troubleshooting high losses and failures in the network.
- Fiber Administration
- Apply expertise in OSP fiber administration practices to maintain and enhance the fiber network.
- OTDR Testing and Analysis
- Conduct OTDR testing to assess fiber optic cable integrity and analyze test results to ensure optimal performance.
- GIS and Record Maintenance
- Utilize GIS-based fiber management systems for network planning and updates.
- Review construction as-built drawings and maintain accurate and up-to-date network records.
- Vendor and Stakeholder Coordination
- Manage relationships with vendors and cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth coordination of tasks and deliverables.
- Project Management
- Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all tasks are prioritized and completed within deadlines.
- Monitor OKRs and dashboards to track project progress and outcomes.
- Attention to Detail and Quality Assurance
- Review and edit splice matrices for accuracy and verify new scopes of work.
- Maintain data integrity across software tooling systems.
- Team Leadership and Coordination
- Organize and lead meetings with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and progress.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members as needed.
- Technical Proficiency
- Utilize software tools such as FIM, ACC, Gaudi, Ultron, and Glassworks (where applicable).
- Stay informed on emerging tools and technologies relevant to OSP engineering.
- Safety and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and compliance requirements associated with OSP work.
- Promote a culture of safety within the team.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Create and maintain detailed records, including MOPs (Methods of Procedure), SOWs (Statements of Work), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and job aids.
- Provide regular updates and documentation for project progress and outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years field experience or Bachelor’s Degree in either Telecommunications Engineering, IT or related field
- Associate Degree or Certification (Minimum Requirement):
- Fiber Optics Technology
- Networking and Communications
- Electronics Engineering Technology
- Specialized Training and Certifications (Highly Desirable):
- Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent certifications from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA).
- OTDR Testing Certification
- GIS Certification (for advanced GIS-based management systems).
- Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP or CAPM) for handling multiple projects.
- Safety Certifications, such as OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training relevant to construction and OSP environments.
- Additional Knowledge Areas (Optional but Beneficial):
- Training in software tools such as FIM, ACC, Gaudi, Ultron, and Glassworks.
- Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards (e.g., ITU-T, ANSI, and IEEE)
Preferred Skills:
- Fiber Optic Splicing: Expertise in splicing fiber optic cables and troubleshooting high losses and failures
- OSP Fiber Administration: Expertise in fiber administration practices
- OTDR Testing: Knowledge of OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) testing and its application in fiber optic cable testing and associated analysis
- GIS: Experience with GIS-based fiber management systems and the ability to read construction as-built drawings and maintain records
- Vendor Management: Excellent communication skills with internal xfn’s and external vendors, including managing vendor relationships and task and coordination
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and OKR and dashboard management
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in reviewing and editing splice matrices, verifying new scope, and maintaining data integrity in software tooling systems
- Leadership: Ability to lead and organize meetings, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and provide guidance to other team members
- Technical Knowledge: familiarity with various software tools such as FIM, ACC, Gaudi, Ultron, and Glassworks (Nice to have)
- Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements related to OSP work
- Documentation: Ability to drive process improvements and maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation related to OSP work, including MOPs, SOWs, SOPs, and Job-Aids
- Proficiency in multiple ticketing systems
Physical Demand & Work Environment:

Salary Range
$72,960.00 - $115,200.00 USD (Salary)
