Job Description 

Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Community College has been equipping students, alumni, and employees with the knowledge and experience to transform themselves, the community, and the world for over 55 years. The College’s comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. Non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry are also offered. BRCC is currently building a pool of POTENTIAL applicants for credit adjunct teaching positions in this discipline. There may or may not be any positions currently available. However, in order to be considered for current and/or future openings, please submit an online application. Teaching demonstration may be required.

Assignments for Advance Manufacturing Technology instructors include evening classes at one or more locations served by the College. The adjunct professor will be responsible for teaching industrial maintenance and manufacturing courses in a hands-on experiential format. Professor will have knowledge and application of industrial control devices, programmable logic controllers, industrial robots, mechanical processes, fluid power, machinery, and basic communication protocols. Students in these classes build on fundamental industrial maintenance and manufacturing skills to troubleshoot, design, and build different projects related to the course material. The instructor will be responsible for making sure the projects focus on industry skills and the materials are provided for students in a timely manner.

Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field or Associate’s degree in the field, with demonstrated competency in the teaching field; or two years of on-the-job trainer experience.
  • Two years of related occupational experience
  • Ability to teach in a hands-on, experiential format; create positive classroom/lab culture that provides foundational knowledge for Mechatronics courses; teach in a hands-on, experiential format; create open-ended problems for students to solve creatively; manage lab-based classrooms, including maintaining equipment and supplies; work with students in a diverse environment with a sensitivity to all members of the community.
  • Knowledge of a programmable logic controllers, multiple programming languages and how to troubleshoot
  • Additional Considerations
  • Troubleshooting basic circuitry and electronics problems related to Industrial controls and programmable logic controllers; various robotic and programmable logic controller programming languages; use and develop electrical, fluid power, and mechanical schematics and prints
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Ability prepare students for mechatronics certification exams and help develop project-based modules for students and expand current curriculum
