Main Purpose of Job

Substitute teacher aides are responsible for the implementation of student instructional programs and daily schedules as directed by the teacher. Candidates must comply with and support MSD's regulations and policies. Substitute teacher aides need to be available on an on-call basis.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Candidates must\r\naccommodate and follow each behavior support plan for individual students,\r\nincluding daily self-care, assist with the arrival and dismissal of students,\r\nand supervise students during off campus instruction.\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates must\r\nprovide a safe environment for students at all times.\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates must\r\nmaintain strict confidentiality of students and school personnel information,\r\nexceptional organizational skills, effective classroom management, strong\r\nwritten communication, and experience working with a diverse student\r\npopulation, including underserved students.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe above mentioned\r\nstatements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to the\r\njob and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills\r\nthat may be required.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required.� Fluency in ASL and written\r\nEnglish required.� Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and\r\nability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational\r\nbackground required.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject\r\nto a criminal background investigation at their own expense.� (Maryland\r\nCode, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to\r\nprovide three letters of recommendation.\r\n

BENEFITS

\r\n\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n\r\n
