Essential Duties
Strategic Leadership and Oversight:1. Develop and implement standardized policies and procedures for faculty affairs, ensuring consistency and alignment with institutional guidelines and regulatory requirements. 2. Provide visionary leadership in faculty-related initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. 3. Provide expert guidance and advice on faculty affairs matters to departmental leaders, faculty members, and administrative staff, addressing contractual agreements, compliance issues, and complex HR situations. 4. Contribute to long-term planning efforts, assess faculty needs, identify trends, and recommend initiatives supporting faculty development, diversity, equity, and inclusion. 5. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and mechanisms for tracking and reporting faculty-related metrics for continuous improvement. 6. Participate in local, regional, and national forums. Build and maintain relationships with professional organizations and peers at other institutions to provide input and feedback on faculty affairs administration and to keep well-informed about contemporary issues affecting higher education. 7. Oversee faculty affairs operations, including recruitment, appointments, promotions, leaves, compensation, and policy development, centralizing and integrating functions across departments. 8. Provide leadership and direction to a team of faculty affairs professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence. 9. Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.

Position Focus:
Reporting to the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and the Deputy Dean of Finance & Administration, this role will support the effective execution of Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Faculty Lifecycle Services in a consistent manner across the full spectrum of staff leadership, program coordination, and faculty support related to faculty: searches and hiring, onboarding and orientation, advancement and promotion, and leaves, transitions and retirements.
The incumbent will oversee faculty support services, as a representative of the School of Medicine, the largest school at Yale University, comprising over 3,000 ladder/tenure and research rank faculty and a large group of adjunct, voluntary (clinical), and other teaching faculty. The Senior Director interprets and implements Yale University and YSM policies and practices that govern the essential employment understandings, as summarized in the Faculty Handbook and other YSM-specific policies and procedures.
The Senior Director directly supervises Associate Director or Director level staff, with teams responsible for three broad areas related to faculty lifecycle:
Search, Offer, and Hire: Approvals of new positions; new senior slot approvals; effort distribution and budgeting; diversity recruitment; search, waiver, and targeted recruitment processes; compensation benchmarking and approval, offer letters, coordination of faculty background checks and conduct inquiry, candidate selection and hiring processes, and utilization of Interfolio and SalesForce for search and appointment processes.
Appointments, Reappointment, and Promotions: Appointments and promotions to advanced academic rank; oversight of Interfolio for department and school A&P processes; changes in academic track and rank; consultation to faculty on document preparation and review process; consultation to department leaders on faculty candidate readiness for promotion; endowed professorships; reports on trends as function of departments/sections, track/rank, demographics, etc.; and coordination of school A&P committees and BPO meetings.
Onboarding, Leaves, and Offboarding: School-wide welcome and leadership introductions; school-wide orientation to clinical, educational, research and administrative resources; support for department-based, hospital, center or laboratory focused onboarding; approval of new appointments for entry-level faculty ranks; coordination of academic leave (triennial and sabbatical) application and approval processes; review of personal/professional leave requests; part-time status approvals; remote work guidelines; exit interview for departing faculty; retirement, phased retirement, and emeritus applications; and consultation on faculty human resources and benefit issues in collaboration with Yale HR.
In addition to reporting and working closely with the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs on these major areas, the Senior Director works closely with departmental leaders in providing supervision, direction, and support to departmental faculty affairs managers and coordinators. Finally, the Senior Director collaborates with other YSM Dean’s Office leaders on major faculty career development initiatives, including among others: FDAQ implementation, tracking, and training; leadership development and wellbeing programs; mentoring initiatives in school-wide groups.
This position is located on Yale’s campus in New Haven, CT and requires a presence on campus 3-4 days per week.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Advanced degree in HR Management, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or Education Management. Experience in progressively responsible roles within faculty affairs, academic administration, or related areas in an academic/medical setting.
