Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for calibration, repair and maintenance of high voltage equipment. The incumbent inspects and evaluates the causes of equipment failures. Supervision may be exercised over Maintenance Mechanics and/or Instrumentation Technicians.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspects, calibrates and maintains 480-4160 volt switchgears and control relays;
  • Calibrates the breakers of 13,000-volt substation feeders;
  • Inspects and maintains all controls and switchgears for an emergency generator;
  • Evaluates the causes of equipment failure; prepares related reports;
  • Supervises Maintenance Mechanics in the repair of motors and installation of electrical fixtures;
  • Supervises the repair of electronic circuit boards.

Starting Salary: $59,038 to $95,918

OPEN COMPETITIVE

(a) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, with a Master Electrician License issued by the Suffolk County Department of Consumer Affairs, and three (3) years of experience which must have been in the installation, repair, maintenance or trouble-shooting of high voltage equipment;

OR

(b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and seven (7) years of experience in the installation, repair, maintenance or trouble-shooting of electronic, electromechanical or electrical monitoring equipment, including three (3) years of experience which must have been in the installation, repair, maintenance or trouble-shooting of high voltage equipment.
