The Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston is recruiting for a non-tenure track Open Rank Clinical Faculty - Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Professional Development plays a pivotal role in supporting the holistic development and success of medical students, promoting student welfare, professional identity, and career preparation. Combining physician perspective and role modeling, expertise in physician career pathways, career selection and entry into graduate medical education, the Assistant Dean is key leader in the mentorship, counseling, and oversight of career advising programs to ensure medical students are equipped with the resources and guidance needed to make informed decisions about their medical careers, beginning from matriculation and continuing through graduation. The Assistant Dean collaborates with the associate dean in the leadership of the office, compliance with accreditation, university, and other regulatory standards, and direct student support.
Primary Responsibilities
0.50 FTE – Administrative – Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Professional Development
o Ongoing development workshops, seminars, and educational materials to enhance students’ understanding of career options and develop their professional skills.
o Provide oversight of the residency application process and program selection.
o In conjunction with specialty advisors, advise students on elective selection in the Advanced Clerkship and Electives phase, specialty competitiveness, individual specialty requirements, and requirements of programs outside of the NRMP.
o Oversee the NRMP Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) during Match week.
0.50 FTE – Additional duties in the Department of Clinical Sciences
