Your mission and Vision 

As Global R&D Automation Director, you will lead automation development within Surface Division R&D, ensuring Epiroc remains at the forefront of the industry. You share the vision of fully autonomous mines, advancing productivity, safety, and sustainability. 

You are motivated by the opportunity to play a leading role in making this vision a reality. 

You will: 

  • Drive automation R&D strategy across the division, overseeing development initiatives. You will lead autonomous rig activities, ensuring efficient integration of on-board automation for both fully autonomous rigs and operator-assisted models. 
  • Align strategies and roadmaps, fostering collaboration across teams and departments to accelerate innovation. 
  • Lead and support senior leaders across global locations, ensuring effective resource management and strategic budget allocation for Base Development (BD), New Product Development (NPD), and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) initiatives. 
  • Represent automation R&D in cross-functional and cross-divisional steering committees. 
  • Engage with customers and industry partners, bringing valuable insights into Epiroc’s automation strategy. 
  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting, commissioning, and pre-sales discussions, ensuring seamless customer integration.

Additional key qualifications for this role include: 

  • Senior Leadership: Proven experience in leading and developing international teams, managing leaders, and ensuring a strong team culture while navigating HR and labor law considerations. 
  • Technical Product Development: 8+ years of experience in technical product development, with expertise in managing complex engineering challenges. Experience in Drill & Blast, Exploration, or Autonomous Systems is a plus. 
  • Educational Background: A degree in automation, software, mechatronics, or another relevant engineering field. 
  • Industry & Regulatory Understanding: Familiarity with software development for autonomous vehicles, industrial robotics, and mechatronics, as well as regulatory frameworks like the EU Machinery Directive and Technical File standards. 
  • Project Management: Experience in project management, project sponsorship, or leading cross-functional initiatives is an advantage. 
  • Language: Proficiency in professional English is required. Additional languages such as Swedish, Mandarin, Telugu, Kannada, or Spanish are a plus. 

Location 

This position can either be in Örebro, Sweden, or Garland, US. 

Approximately 15-25% international travel will be expected.
