Department Information

IU Radio/TV is home to Indiana Public Media, the south-central Indiana region's trusted source of locally produced news, arts, and culture series from WFIU Public Radio, WTIU Public Television, and nationally distributed programming from NPR and PBS.

Journey Indiana (JI) is a statewide travel magazine show carried by every public media station in the state and WKAR in Michigan. Our team of producers and videographers works hard to uncover hidden gems, tell authentic Hoosier stories, and bring out the very best in Indiana. The format of the show is a traditional 30-minute broadcast. However, we also maintain a presence on the web and on social media. 

Job Summary

This Associate Producer position (AP) is a part-time employee position within the Radio and Television Services Content Group, assisting with the production of WTIU's series "Journey Indiana". This position will help manage the show's social media and web presence. 

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as the coordinator and content producer for the social media accounts associated with JI. 
  • Develop and maintain a social media calendar for JI content. 
  • Manage the workflow to re-process JI content for use on social media. 
  • Post JI content to social media accounts. 
  • Upload JI episodes to the PBS Passport App. 
  • Manage and update the JI website and online articles. 
  • Manage social media accounts and interface with followers. 
  • Monitor social media accounts and the show's website to maximize traffic. 
  • Ideate new social media projects and campaigns. 
  • Utilizes in-house software platforms: WordPress, Cascade, and Grove. Media: various Adobe Creative Cloud programs, including Photoshop and Premiere; Canva; social media management software. 
  • Assist with other social media or production projects as needed. 
  • Other production-related duties necessary to the show may also be assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

  • Exposure to marketing and/or communications with a focus on social media and/or media marketing (or classroom equivalent)
  • Exposure to broadcasting, media production, or online publication (or classroom equivalent)
  • Experience in writing for broadcast and/or print
  • Experience in graphic design and/or visual arts 

SKILLS

Preferred

  • Proficient communication skills
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism
  • Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills
  • Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
  • Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment

Working Conditions / Demands

Must be able to work at a computer and remain stationary for long periods of time. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$14.00 per hour to start, with the opportunity to progress in pay twice per year (opportunities going into fiscal year start in July and mid-year in January). 

Pay progression plans for this part-time position are currently:

Level 1: $14.00 per hour 

Level 2: $16.00 per hour 

Level 3: $18.00 per hour 

The candidate may be brought in a higher level, depending on qualifications. 

Work Hours

Up to 20 hours per week. 

Part-time employees at Indiana University may not work over 29 hours per week across all University-held positions. 

May be required to work occasional nights or weekends, depending on the project info/elements delivery, and deadline.
