POSITION SUMMARY

The Web and Service Server Administrator is responsible for managing Epic’s print queues and printing infrastructure, ensuring that all printing operations run smoothly. This role includes monitoring network and web server activity for security breaches using intrusion detection techniques and performing regular file system management. The administrator installs and manages the application deployment platforms that support production, reporting, disaster recovery, training, and non-production environments. Also tasked with installing and maintaining the administrative and monitoring tools essential for ensuring high availability and performance of the Epic system. The role requires an understanding of performance metrics, constant monitoring of system performance, and troubleshooting of issues to maintain system health. The administrator will assist in configuring and troubleshooting integrated third-party software and peripherals, as well as applying platform and Epic updates to production and non-production, web server components. In addition, the administrator will respond to emergency and after-hours issues and engage in capacity planning to ensure adequate system resources, and collaborate with technical teams and Epic for proactive support. Writing and maintaining scripts to automate system management tasks is also an essential part of the role, as is participation in the change control process for all planned application and technical activities. The administrator will maintain and test business continuity processes, following vendor and Epic best practices for hardware and software configurations to ensure that systems remain secure, efficient, and resilient. Off-hours work and participation in on-call rotation are required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  1. Two or more years of Linux/Unix experience or Linux/Unix certification.
  2. Strong Unix skills using the command‐line prompt, including navigating directory structures and file manipulation
  3. Understanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.
  4. Knowledge of a command shell ﴾Korn, POSIX, Bourne, or C﴿, plus languages and utilities such as awk, sed, and Perl
  5. Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of system development methodology and principles of project management.
  2. Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  3. Technical knowledge and understanding of clinical systems.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with staff.
  5. Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Creating and managing the ODB environments that serve production, reporting, disaster recovery, training, and non‐production needs
  2. Installing and maintaining the administrative and monitoring tools necessary for high levels of availability and performance of your Epic system
  3. Understanding performance metrics, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues
  4. Managing the logins for different types of access, including login behavior and working environment configuration
  5. Applying IRIS and Epic upgrades and updates to production and non‐production environments
  6. Configuring and maintaining environment copies according to the environment strategy
  7. Responding to emergency and after‐hours issues
  8. Engaging in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources
  9. Collaborating with your technical teams and Epic to ensure proactive support
  10. Writing and maintaining scripts to improve system management tasks
  11. Participating in your change control process for all planned application and technical activities
  12. Maintaining and testing processes related to business continuity
  13. Following vendor and Epic best practices for hardware and software configuration

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
