Job summary

We are currently looking for a Strategic Quality Assurance Lead to join our Governance Office Function within the Enablement group.

This is a full-time opportunity, on a 2-year Fixed term contract basis. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.

Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.

We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

The Governance Office is a small unit at the heart of the MHRA that supports both the Executive Team and the Board in managing and controlling the activities of the agency effectively. We set and help the agency to deliver the highest standards of corporate governance, risk and assurance and provide advice and guidance to a wide range of colleagues across many of the agency’s most innovative new areas.

Job description

The Quality function sits within the governance office as the hub in a hub and spoke model and works with quality professionals across the agency to ensure an aligned approach and support compliance to the ISO quality standards. 

This exciting new role has been created to support the Head of Quality Assurance in developing and implementing long-term quality strategies to enhance operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement and compliance with standards.

The Strategic Quality Assurance Lead will have the opportunity to work with senior leaders to develop and lead on an agency-wide strategy and roadmap for Quality Assurance.

This role is ideally suited to someone with experience of working in the management of a quality environment, with strategic vision, technical expertise and exceptional communication skills who is able to quickly form working relationships with colleagues at all levels and is confident working independently as well as within a team environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a quality strategy, aligned with MHRA strategic objectives.
  • Bring together different quality approaches to create a single aligned quality system in compliance with ISO9001.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to align quality initiatives with agency business goals.
  • Deliver the quality strategy to drive up standards in the agency, ensuring continual improvement in quality management practices.

Person specification

  • Understanding of the ISO9001 quality management system and / or other ISO quality standards
  • Experience of leading quality initiatives or working at a senior level in a quality management system.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly form productive working relationships.
  • Personal resilience and ability to work with ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Efficiency and ability to work at pace.

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £58,983, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency contributes £17,087 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.

  • Annual Leave: 25 days annual leave on entry, rising by one day for each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days and pro-rata for part-time staff. PLUS 8 bank holidays

  • Hours of Work: 37 hours (net) per week for full time staff in all geographical locations, including London and pro rata for part-time staff
