We’re looking for a Deputy Director of Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Investments to join us and lead the charge in securing the energy sector against cyber risks while accelerating the responsible use of AI. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, policy, and regulation - ensuring that AI is used ethically and effectively, while protecting energy infrastructure from emerging cyber threats.
Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers -especially vulnerable people.
We’re offering a permanent opportunity for an experienced leader who thrives on big-picture thinking, strategic oversight, and delivering high-impact results. You’ll be responsible for overseeing key national initiatives, influencing government policy, managing large-scale investments, and ensuring the energy industry meets critical cyber regulatory standards and pro-innovation AI guidance. This role is ideal for those who want to shape policy at a national level, influence industry-wide changes, and tackle some of the most pressing challenges in energy regulation.
You’ll work closely with government, industry leaders, regulators, and technology experts to set the strategic direction for AI and cyber investment in the energy sector. This means leading teams of technical specialists, and ensuring that our regulatory frameworks remain robust, future-proof, and responsive to evolving risks and opportunities.
We’re looking for someone with deep expertise in Artificial Intelligence and/or Cyber Security, combined with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills. You’ll need to be comfortable managing complex projects, influencing senior decision-makers, and working across government, industry, and academia to drive forward best practices in AI governance and cyber resilience.
At Ofgem, we value innovation, collaboration, and professional growth. We offer an inclusive and flexible working environment where you’ll be empowered to lead, shape national policy, and contribute to a cleaner, more secure energy future. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in safeguarding energy infrastructure and pioneering the responsible use of AI.
With AI transforming industries and cyber threats becoming more sophisticated, our work is more important than ever. Join us and be at the forefront of shaping the UK’s AI strategy, strengthening cyber resilience, and ensuring a sustainable energy future.
