Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) provides the educational outreach functions for Cornell University’s role as New York State’s Land Grant University.  Programmatically, Cornell Cooperative Extension connects the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Human Ecology (CHE) with 55 off-campus Associations, Integrated Pest Management, New York State Sea Grant, Area Specialists, and CCE New York City. 

The Cornell Cooperative Extension Information Technologies (CCE IT) group supports Cornell Cooperative Extension programming, communications, and business operations by providing and maintaining communications & collaboration systems and technologies; providing a web presence; building system-wide capacity for distance learning and supporting distance learning for professional staff and constituents; developing and maintaining electronic processing and data storage systems for CCE campus, Regional Agriculture Teams, and Association administration; and providing training and technical support in the use of technologies in programming and operations.

Under the general direction of the Information Technology Area Manager, this position provides web development support to Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE), by creating, editing, and updating HTML-based and database-driven web sites; creating and modifying databases of content for production web sites; and, in general, assisting other CCE staff with the electronic infrastructure dedicated to excellent service in the delivery of external and internal communications.

           

This position works in conjunction with the IT project manager and CCE Communications staff and functions as part of a team to assist efforts in designing, programming, testing, documenting, and maintaining web-based programs and applications that extend the educational outreach of CCE.  Includes responsibility in assisting with project planning including communication with users for the purpose of needs analysis.  Formulates and defines system scope and objectives for web-based applications.  A main focus of this position is on navigation and usability of all CCE public-facing and internal sites and systems; leading initiatives to improve usability for customers. 

As part of the CCE Information Technology team, this position also participates in assisting with general computing helpdesk tickets as well as backing up other team members to support other IT projects.

This position is full-time (40 hours / week) to be worked in the office during standard business hours (Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm) and will be located in Ithaca, New York.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years relevant experience within information technology including specific experience in developing web based applications or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Drupal CMS, WordPress CMS, MS Sharepoint, IIS, ASP.net. General knowledge of other server side scripting languages.
  • Knowledge in HTML / XML, CSS, Bootstrap, Javascript, JQuery, ColdFusion, PHP, Apache, Google Maps.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to implement and document software, learn technical material quickly, and work as part of an information technology team in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, critical thinking and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with clients who have a wide range of technical expertise, and information literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with others on a collaborative team toward a shared project goal. 
  • Proven ability to analyze requirements and meet deadlines.  Well-organized. Ability to manage multiple assignments in a proactive manner.  Ability and willingness to meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to high level of customer service.
  • Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with content management systems.
  • Usability testing and experience.
  • Experience related to Communications and Public Relations.
  • Graphic design and interface design experience.
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Project management skills helpful.
  • Course work in computer or information science helpful.
