The Logistics and Borders Directorate (LAB) in DfT acts as a single point of leadership representing the interests of the Department for Transport, and collaborating with the freight and logistics sector, to support the UK's border arrangements and ensure the seamless flow of goods and people. As an island nation, the UK is dependent on friction-less borders to deliver the food, fuel and materials we need to prosper and drive economic growth.
LAB offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you’ll influence high-priority government policies and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. The Transport Border Strategy team, within the Future Border Policy Division, develops long-term strategies to improve border policy and operations from the perspective of transport stakeholders who are key customers of the border (such as customs and bio-security checks), and tackle strategic border disruption risks.
This role requires a strategic policy professional and self-starter to lead implementation of our Transport Border Facilitation Strategy, working closely with DfT Ministers and senior officials. You will coordinate input DfT input into a wide range of cross-government and cross-border initiatives identifying and pursuing priorities for our sectors, including border digitalisation efforts with the Home Office and Border Force, while developing vital relationships across government in a challenging and impactful position.

Additional information
A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
There will be occasional travel to visit ports and airports, with the potential for international travel.
