The team

Our team is growing to meet an increasing demand for performance analytics to support HMRC’s Digital Strategy, to enable our customers to complete more of what they want to do on-line.

A vacancy has become available for the role of Performance Analyst on the team.

Job description

It’s an exciting time to join the team as a Performance Analysis. It is an opportunity suited to someone who is proactive, enthusiastic and is looking for a role in a dynamic fast-paced agile environment.

The skills and experience that you develop and acquire in carrying out this role will be in high demand in the years ahead.

You will play a key role in in supporting live running and continual improvement of the increasing range of live digital services that we offer our customers across services for business and for individuals.

As a performance analyst you will be expected to help us understand the customer’s journey, identifying pain points and informing how we develop our guidance or services to help the customer stay in the digital channel.

You will collaborate with the wider digital community (user researchers, designers, product and development, business analysts and digital service managers) to understand analytical requirements, analyse a range of data sources, identify potential issues, and create data driven hypotheses to iterate, improve and test services to provide collective insights.

You will also be credible, influential and a supportive team-player who is self-motivated, a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills with a proven commitment to continuous improvement.

You may be required to apply to be vetted to Security Cleared. The reason for this is to allow you to access data held in the Customer Insight Platform.

Person specification

The successful candidate will:

Support the development of performance measurement frameworks - KPIs, goals, user needs, benefits – analysing performance of a service or product against these using appropriate tools, adapting their approach and framework appropriately.

Identify analytical requirements and relevant metrics, provide robust, quality assured analytics and interpret results to create compelling evidence-based and actionable data stories to share with stakeholders to drive decisions and inform the iterative design of the service.

Manage your day-to-day activities as a Performance Analyst, including analysing data from Google Analytics 4.

Be confident using Excel and Google Sheets to manipulate the data, and Data Studio and Power BI to visualize and share outputs to other teams that inform iterations to improve performance throughout the agile life cycle.

Have experience and knowledge of Google Tag Manager, SQL, Big query and CIP.

Recognise and identify appropriate ways to collect, collate, and prepare data, and ensures analysis is quality assured – while understanding and communicating any constraints with the data.

Actively contribute to the performance analysis community within the department, whilst forging links with other analytical disciplines. Align with the Government Digital and Data professions skills framework for performance analysts.

Able to analyse data and present findings to guidance teams which will allow them to identify areas for improvement. 

Essential Criteria:

Experience in using Google Analytics 4 and Power BI.

Experience in developing performance measurement frameworks - KPIs, goals, user needs, benefits.

Proficient in a range of analytical tools, including Excel/Google Sheets, which are required for performance analytics.

Experience presenting analysis and visualisations in clear ways to communicate complex messages.

Desirable Criteria:

Experience in Google’s Data Studio, Google Tag Manager, SQL, Big Query and CIP.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • At interview, candidates will be required to demonstrate the experience and skills against the personal specification, and against the skills in the Government Digital and Data framework for a Performance Analyst.

Benefits
