Job Description

Plant Operations is committed to supporting the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's focus on protecting and promoting the health of all New Yorkers by providing comprehensive building services. These services include multiple building trades responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the agency's owned and leased sites.

Position Summary:

Stationary Engineers will perform field inspections, maintenance, and repairs to plant and mechanical room equipment and record keeping for DOHMH locations. Candidates will also operate, maintain, and adjust HVAC equipment, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, chillers, and associated equipment. Stationary Engineers will also be responsible of a watch, conduct equipment assessments; work with supporting staff to identify and correct field deficiency affecting plants operation; trouble shoot, identify deficiencies, and make plant repairs; and offer guidance to Plant Operations personnel as needed on plant and field equipment operations.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

• Monitoring and adjusting building maintenance systems as needed.
• Cooling tower compliance maintaining, inspecting, testing and report deficiencies.
• Operating, maintaining, and adjusting steam power plant and electromechanical building equipment.
• Making periodic inspections and minor repairs to equipment.
• Reading and logging meters, gauges, and other recording devices.
• Maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning HVAC, boilers, refrigeration systems, generators, condensers, and pumps.
• Operating control consoles in control rooms.
• Preparing requisitions for materials and spare parts.
• Performing related duties and attending to emergencies as they arise.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• A valid license for a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
• Also required is a certificate of qualification for refrigerating systems issued by the New York City Fire Department.
• Candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. These licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Qualifications

A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
